Meek’s Cutoff & Love Like Poison – Film Previews

Written for The Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society’s Summer Programme 2011.

Meek’s Cutoff
Based on the historical events of 1845, director Kelly Reichard’s 2011 western drama follows the story of a small group of settlers travelling across the Oregon High Desert. When the supposedly two-week journey soon turns into much more, and with no end in sight, tensions high and water supply thin on the ground, how much longer can the group survive?

Love Like Poison
Directed by Katell Quillévéré, young teenager Anna returns from her Catholic boarding school to find her father has left. Growing close to Pierre, a free-spirited teenager who does not care about God, Anna’s faith is shaken, as she longs to give herself over, body and soul. However her decision between religion or something else becomes torn.
